And so it goes...

Share in the poetry pleasure of Friday at Life is Better With Books.

July is practically a memory, but a lovely one.
I have taken a bit of a blogging break. I will admit, I haven't been busy this whole time hugging my children and digging my toes in the sand...though I have done a lot of that. I spent some time watching TV, napping, eating berries, letting my brain dry out a bit. Well, the well needs watering and I am ready to get back into this! A peek into the notebook seems in order as I did put a few ramblings in there. Here is a little taste of poetry and work in progress that illustrates my July.

sun rest
in the wet
multi-colored
spectacle
the day
washed away

This is an attempt at a poem story, the memories of a piece of driftwood. Here is the first stanza:

Shedding tears of morning dew
the mother births her seeds.
Her waving leaves send them off
alone into the breeze.

I recently found out I really like snails. I wrote a poem about one today.

Patience
un-avoidable,
your home
a spiral dome.

You slide a path of
                   memory
in search of something
                               old.

  1. Yum! Your poetry is very sweet- love the image of a mother waving her seeds into the breeze- beauty! And that snails have unavoidable patience! :D Sweet stuff here! Thanks!

  2. Thank you for the peek into your notebook. It is good to see handwriting and drawings. I love "the wet multi-colored spectacle." That's just what it is. I also love the idea of the memories of a piece of driftwood. Happy end of July!

  3. I like each one, Dana, but especially "the day washed away". We are so in need of rain, & here, at the end of the day, we received a welcome rain shower for about a half hour. It was grand! Thanks for your sharing. I've been in & will be out again next week for more traveling. Summer is closing...

  4. Betsy, I loved the peeks into your notebook! I enjoyed the use of drawings and colors mixed with your words. I especially like the sun/water drawing. My favorite line is from the snail poem: "You slide a path of memory." Love it!

  5. Your snail drawing and its poem are precious! Who knew a snail could be so cute? I really like the stanza you shared from your driftwood poem. You've got a fresh perspective.

  6. I LOVE that last stanza of your snail poem!!

Thanks for the peek into your notebook! One of the people at the writing retreat who read my hawk poem (and saw how it was born in my notebook) suggested that a picture of the notebook pages should go along with the poem. That picture didn't make it to the blog, but I'll definitely share it with my students!
