On Your Heart

Read, share and enjoy lots more poetry over at No Water River!

Back in October I was perusing Artsyletters, the Etsy shop of, Poetry Friday friend to many, Robyn Hood Black. I was stopped in my breath when I saw this piece.
(Photo doesn't really do it justice).

It encompasses so many things my husband loves. A sketch of one of the typewriters that he owns (yes he has more than one) and the quote was perfect. I ordered. It came. He opened it Christmas morning and was dazzled. It was awesome. This week I have been walking past this beautiful piece of art and I am reminded to "Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year." I thought since parts of this poem by Emerson played an important part in my week I would share it. I am sure it is a favorite of many.

Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day,
and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.

You can read the poem in its entirety here.

Here is another photo of the piece next to a wood burned plaque my husband made. I love it!

  1. It is beautiful, Betsy, & the poem too. I just printed it out for my notebook! I bought one of Robyn's pieces too, about reading. She has some beautiful things created, doesn't she?

  4. The right art at the right moment for the right person. Perfect.

And Emerson fits the whole story so well.

Here's some further reading that resonates with the Emerson quote:
