A Flake in Fall

flakes fall
the first snow
cold on my head
freezing my toes
I stand in the air
I breathe
like a dream
the flakes
like vapor
disappear
dissipate
my discouraged hour
gone
I awake

  1. Nice twist here, Betsy. Not at all what I expected when I first read the title!

  2. I missed the first flurries falling today, but my daughter's babysitter said they were out for them. I will look forward to experiencing them for myself soon. Until then, I will reread your poem. :)

  3. Stay warm! Like Diane, I wasn't expecting the bit of turning at the end... the cold snow actually being a positive force rather than something to huddle against/away from.

  4. We had "graupel" in Mass - weird little snowballs like hail and snow mixed.

Too soon! Gone now. Love your poem.
