A Hunch

Little hunches
Stir in bunches
Wishes from
A well of punches

Hunches grab
They grow and swell
Up the wall
Into your well

Then suddenly
They become clear
Reality to you
But you must steer

Away from it
For it will spec-
you-late away
all truths and traits

Your wishes
Let them wash you
dear,
don’t doubt your truth
let that be clear.

Hostess Renee at No Water River will have the roundup!

A Poetic Peek at My Recent Vacation

I was in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan recently. I love it there. The beauty is bountiful. The colors vibrant. The people are happy and removed from tech this and tech that. They have no cell service in many areas still but you can occasionally find a spot of WiFi here and there (a few times I got it right in my tent)! I wrote a lot of lines, descriptions, anticipations of things I would see. I wrote a lot of words while up there. The first poem is one that I wanted to find before I left. I wrote it and then we went in search of it each day. The second poem was inspired by a beautiful sunset on the night of July 4th. It could not have been pinker or more beautiful.

Before

Wildflowers will abound
With each step
Soft and sound
A water spray
From falling springs
Toward river flows
And cliffs that bring
The greenery
The scenery
I wonder and I wait
To see what I am longing for
Outside where I escape.

After

Wind carries away
a blissful day
of sun’s sweet air
perfumed with care
encouragement
of each bud and bloom
she blankets them
with chromatic hues.

Clarity

As I sit alone
I see the clarity
of nature's position
she takes all of what she needs
lest it be taken from her
the sun says goodnight
and she rests until morning
to start all over again
drinking the rain
welcoming the rays
singing earth's song

Morning

A wander, a wonder
My hand at my side.

I pet lilies and wilds
With black little eyes

Soft and sound steps
As the tweets fill the air.

I spy blue and red berries
To munch and to share.

A butterfly landing
On my cone flowered ear

I listen, wings whisper
As sunlight appears.

This poem is coming out of my imagination of my soon to be vacation to wooded bliss. I look forward to the wildflowers, waterfall sprays and sounds of nature. I am always bewildered by the beauty of this home we all share. I don't have to go far to enjoy it (well, ten hours, maybe kind of far). But, it feels worth it to see something that is so natural, carved out of water, growing wild, greens and purples. The lushness and softness of the chromatic colors amaze me. I will pet the flowers and listen for those whispering wings.
Go visit the lovely Amy Ludwig VanDerwater over at her wordifull poemy space The Poem Farm. (I just love making up words).

Before I go, I hope you will join in on Sunday for Chalk-A-Bration over at Teaching Young Writers. See details here

Journey

Journey of
a little seed
not yet a sproutlet
not yet indeed
she flutter floats
she rides the breeze
she runs along
her elders sleeve

Moments older
she tumbles down
new journeys forward
new journeys found
she's planted there
with no despair
she waits and wishes
sunlight appears

Little droplets
drawing near
she waits again
to burst and cheer
her journey starting
all over again
she sprouts to life
rebirth begins.

This poem was inspired by a simple prompt given by Ruth Ayres at the ALL WRITE!!! Conference in Warsaw, Indiana. She simply said, "write about journey..."
I love simple things.

Burned

Burning my eyes
The light pours
Out of him
He reddens my skin.

A giver of life
A taker of dark
Shining for all
Setting at night.

To be missed
To be longed
To be gone
Until dawn.

Silent Thunder

Your silence
thunder in my heart
drawing words in my head
thoughts confused by dread
I silence myself
constrict my heart
erase the words
letters scatter apart.

I started a new blog to save all my poetry and poetry lessons. I will still use teachingyoungwriters.blogspot.com for all other things writing when it comes to young children, but it was time to get a space for my own words. Glad you stopped by.

Poetry Friday is hosted by Jama at Jama's Alphabet Soup!
